Anon(ymous) by Naomi Iizuka

Anon(ymous)  is a modern day retelling of Homer's The Odyssey told through the eyes of a refugee from an unnamed war torn country. The plot follows Anon as he traverses America in search of his mother, while having encounters with a spoiled heiress, a one-eyed cannibalistic butcher, a set of hypnotic bar maids, and a blind restaurant owner. The tale is very episodic, covers a great deal of locations, and employs various theatrical techniques- heavy sound design and memory play- to create the world of Anon. To give this production life, the design was relatively simple- skeletal cityscapes creating the illusion of an inner city with simple elements to add to the overall feeling (signage, graffiti, trash cans, clotheslines). To create interior spaces we used moving set pieces to give the whole production a sense of momentum and forward motion.

Here you will find original hand sketches, AutoCAD renderings, and photos of the production.
